Welcome and thank you for taking the time to visit my website. I started seriously producing art 28 years ago as a Mosaicist and still produce  several pieces of artwork in this medium every year, as well as paintings. I love exploring and creating Artwork in 3 dimensional and 2 dimensional pieces.

Wyoming and the greater Yellowstone area are my backyard inspiration.  I am fortunate to live so close and call Wyoming my home for 16 years.  I spent my youth in the High Sierra California/Nevada mountains and Bainbridge Is Washington.  Bonanza was my favorite TV show ( I loved the fictitious Ponderosa Ranch). Moving to Wyoming was  natural move, horses, cattle and the great outdoors. Art has always had a connection to the outdoors for me, the natural and sometimes vibrant colors that nature displays are inspiring.

Most of my paintings are of Wildlife and Landscapes in and around Yellowstone National Park, Owl Creek Mountains, Wind River Mountains, Bighorn Mountains and Grand Teton National Park.  I am starting a series of paintings of Yellowstone National Park. The magnificent water pools with various hues of blue, span the spectrum of the rainbow. I enjoy using bold abstract colors in my Wildlife and Landscape Paintings, with a hint of realism. My hope is that you find yourself thinking of the outdoors and somewhere special when you view my Artwork.  For the last two years, annually I donate a painting and participate in a Quick Draw to fund raise money for the Arts. Supporting Washakie Museum and Cultural Center, and the Rotary in Worland Wyoming. It is my way of supporting local arts.

I will be adding more paintings regularly. Visit again as the collection grows.  You can look for and purchase current prints at my Gallery of Paintings. You can find me on Facebook at Sonja Johansen Art Studio or Instagram at sonja_johansen_art
